Wine for Waterfowlers

Let me start out by saying that, on occasion, we'll drink a little wine at the HuntFishCook headquarters and few things go better with a peppery grilled elk steak or a pan-seared mallard breast than a great glass of red wine. Needless to say, when we received a mailer from Duck Shack Wines, we thought, "You know...we really owe it to ourselves and our viewers to give their wines a taste."

So, we ordered a gift box of Duck Shack which includes a bottle each of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Donny prepared his famous balsamic venison appetizer and Scott made fish cakes. We started by pairing the fish cakes with the 2007 Duck Shack Chardonnay and the match was perfect. Here's a description of the wine from their website...
A rich, bright Chardonnay with layers of apples and pears. The nutty complexity is nicely balanced with the crisp finish. Cooled by early morning and late evening fog from San Pablo Bay, and bathed in Napa sunshine by day, wines from this area are known for their rich texture.

While we may not know all there is know about wine, we know a good one when we taste it. We've also spent a fair amount of time in the Napa area and can really appreciate a great wine that you can drink right now. So far, so good. Next up...the 2007 Duck Shack Cabernet. Turns out that this is our new favorite wine, either sipping a glass after work or when paired with Donny's venison. Both wines have a ducky label that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside...or maybe it's the wine.

Don't take our word for it. The two bottle gift box is not only a great way to kick off the weekend, it's the ideal gift for your favorite waterfowler who's suffering from post-season depression.

Golden yellow color. Toasted nut, baked apple, and lemon balm aromas follow through on a soft, round entry to a dryish medium body with green pineapple, lime rind and mineral notes. Finishes with a crisp, tart mealy apple fade.
